After you have extracted all the necessary files, move to the "/inst_temp" directory. Then execute the setup file by entering the following command:

Namo DeepSearch 4 allows you to install the software using web browser. This option makes the installation procedure more convenient, so it is highly recommended. Choose web installer (default) by typing number "1" for your choice then press [Enter]. Then following messages will appear on the same screen:

(1) Namo DeepSearch 4 License Agreement

After you open a web browser and copy the URL on the address window, the license agreement screen will appear.

(2) Selecting Indexer

After you accept all the terms of the license agreement by clicking "Yes," you will have to select the desired indexer. Select the desired option by checking Default indexer, Advanced indexer, or both.

**You can change the Indexer option from the Administrator Menu after the installation completes

(3) Selecting Installation Directory

Select the directory in which you want to install DeepSearch 4. If you wish to see the organization of your servers' directories click "open."

(4) Setting URL and Path

Set the CGI Program URL and installation path as well as Resource URL and path.

  1. CGI URL
    The CGI URL is the URL address entered to execute a CGI program from a web browser. For example, if you are able to access the CGI program by entering the URL http://xxx.xxx.xxx/cgi-bin/xxxxx, then "/cgi-bin/" would be the CGI URL. Keep in mind that unlike server administrators, a regular users' CGI URL will be "/~userid/cgi-bin/." If you are a regular user and have been given a CGI URL, ask the administrator if you have been given the proper authorization over the CGI URL..
  2. CGI Path
    The CGI path is the directory used in a web server corresponding to the CGI URL.
  3. Resource URL
    Resource files are required for DeepSearch 4 to run properly such as the image files that are displayed on the result page and the script files used for other features. You need to specify the URL where these resource files will be saved..
  4. Resource Path
    The resource path is the directory where DeepSearch resource files will be saved and located within the server.

(5) Setting Administrator Password, Website URL , and e-mail Address

Type in the administrator password that will be used to access the administrator page. Type in the URL address for the website to be indexed. Then, type in the administrator e-mail address before advancing to the next step.

**You can change the administrator password from the administrator page after the installation completes. The administrator e-mail address will only be used to send notification e-mails when server errors occur.

(6) Installation Options

The page before installing DeepSearch 4 will summarize all the options, URL's, and paths you have chosen for the DeepSearch 4 installation.

(7) Completing Setup

After installing all the files, the page will notiy you that the setup has completed installing Namo DeepSearch 4. Click "Finish."

Unlike Web Installer, Terminal Installer uses pure text as the installation method. Administrators who are familiar or confident with the UNIX environment may find this option faster and more convenient. Choose Terminal Installer by typing "2" for your choice, then press [Enter]. Then following messages will appear on the same screen: "Terminal installer is running..."

(1) Namo DeepSearch 4 License Agreement

Immediately after, the Namo DeepSearch 4 License Agreement will display on the same screen.

(2) Selecting Indexer

The next step after the license agreement is to select the desired indexer. Enter 0 for Adavanced Indexer (Advanced indexer), 1 for Standard Indexer (Default indexer), or * for both.

Procedures for Setting the Installation Information

    1. Before you begin setting up the installation information, you may want to read through the descriptions for each item in the next section.
    2. Type the number of an item you wish to change and then press the Enter.
    3. The current setting will appear on the bottom of the screen with a blinking cursor on the right. If you wish to make changes, type in the new value and then press Enter to save it. Otherwise, press Enter if you do not wish to make any change.
    4. When the value of an item has been modified successfully, a "*" character will appear on the left side of the item.
    5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for all the other items you wish to change.
    6. When you have finished modifying all the settings, type "*", then press Enter. The next installation process will begin shortly afterwards. If you wish to end and exit from the setup screen, type "q" then press Enter.

**In order for Namo DeepSearch 4 to operate properly, the home page URL and the server directory location (path) must be set correctly. URL vs. Directory Path: URL is the address used to access the site using web browsers (i.e.-http://www.namo.com), while the Directory Path is the physical location of the site accessed using telnet or FTP (i.e.-/home/user/DeepSearch/public_html).

Description of each Item

    1. Installation Directory
    This sets the path (directory in the server) where Namo DeepSearch 4 will be installed.
    2. CGI URL

    7. DeepSearch Administrator's Password
    The administrator's password will be used to connect to the administrator's page using web browsers.
    8. URL of the Home Page to be indexed
    Lastly, specify URL's of web sites to be indexed or searched.

The rest of the setup will run automatically if all of the above procedures have been completed properly. The installation procedure will not run properly if you have provided incorrect settings or values. In this case, read the help information about installation carefully and then try installing again.

After you enter the command "./deepsearch start" the search engine will begin running.
